The Flatbush Girls JV Volleyball Team ran their record to 4-0 on the season on Thursday night (11/16) when they hit the road for a straight sets victory at North Shore in Great Neck, NY.
The Falcons dominated play in both games, taking the first by the score of 21-15 the closing out the win in set two yielding one less point for a 21-14 closeout win. The team was led on offense and defense by the all-around quality play of Sophomore Co-Captain Danielle Tawil. Complimenting her was the serving of Esty Vizgan. The most significant aspect of the win was in the play of the various Freshmen who have joined the veteran Sophomores on the court, as they continue to improve as a group every game. Noted Head Coach Irene Eisdorfer, “Ruthy Dwek is improving and played nicely. Rochelle Hafif gets better with each game. And, I am impressed with Trina Cayre. She tries very hard and show great potential.”
The win at North Shore came on the heels of a win in their toughest match of the season last Monday night (11/13) against the Central Wildcats in a contest played in the friendly confines of the Aux Nest. The JV Girls were extended to three sets – with all games decided by three points or less.
The loss in set number two was the fist set the team dropped all season long, and tested the girls in a pressure situation for the first time all season. The Girls rose to the challenge, trailing a large part of the deciding third set. Vizagan played a huge role in that victory as well. With the Wildcats leading 17-15, the Falcons broke serve and handed the ball to Vizgan. Vizgan calmly and confidently delivered 5 straight serves – a number of them service winners – to seal the comeback win!
Immediately afterwards, the two Varsity teams took the court, and though the Varsity Falcons played hard from the outset, the visiting Wildcats were just too strong, and Flatbush fell in straight sets by the score of 21-14, 21-12, 21-15.
After the road win at North Shore, Coach Eisdorfer was full of praise for her Sophomore players. “Danielle was great all game, and Esty has just beautiful serves!”
NEST NOTES: The JV’s played a third set at North Shore, providing the young freshmen members of the team valuable game experience in a competitive setting.
On the return trip from North Shore, the JV Girls held an impromptu celebration for their Freshman teammate, Ruthy Dwek, in honor of her birthday which was on Monday. Much singing, smiling and laughing was had by all.
