The Flatbush 8th grade Boys and Girls Basketball Teams traveled to the Barclays Center on Monday night (3/19) for what has become an annual tradition, marking the end of their Middle Division basketball careers by taking in the Brooklyn Nets – Memphis Grizzlies game at the NBA’s local venue on Atlantic Avenue in Brooklyn, NY.
It has become a yearly event, concluding both the 8th Grade basketball season and their middle school playing days – which for many of the players also marked the end of three years representing Flatbush’s Middle Division in competition with the member schools of the MJDSBL. NBA basketball, teammates and coaches – what better way to cap the season!
Noted Flatbush Athletic Director Eric Amkraut, who joined the players and coaches at the event, “over the course of the game, I saw a group of boys and girls who both enjoy each other’s company as well as the time outside of “basketball “ with coaches they have come to look up to for guidance in matters well beyond the game. What a pleasure to see them having fun in the seats, spending time in discussions with coaches and relaxing as they explored the Barclays Center.” It is what the student-athlete experience is really all about!
Thank you, Coaches Mike Gelber, Rozan Mizrahi, Daniel Salzman and Sarah Horowitz for enriching the lives of our student-athletes, and for being so much more than basketball coaches.
And, good luck to our graduating 8th Grade Basketball players as they move on to high school!
NEST NOTES: The Brooklyn Nets held on to defeat the Memphis Grizzlies by a score of 117-114.
