The Flatbush Boys JV Softball team finished the season on a high note Wednesday afternoon (5/9), winning a close and well-played game over Magen David by the score of 2-0 at the McDonald Avenue Playground in Brooklyn, NY.
It is perhaps the shortest of all MYHSAL seasons, and it ends almost as soon as it begins, but for this grouping of Flatbush JV Softball players it would be different than it has been for the past two seasons. The past seasons saw the boys play hard, only to come up empty every time out. This year, the team came away with a win in the season opener. That game was played exactly two weeks ago, and this game – a rematch of that season-opening contest – would mark the end of the season! Could Flatbush repeat their April 25th performance?
Head Coach Howie Fleischman handed the ball to his Sophomore pitcher, Victor Terzi, and Terzi did not disappoint. He was around the plate all afternoon long, and kept the Warriors off balance so that when they put the ball in play, the defense behind him was in position with time to make the plays.
Terzi also did it on the offensive end, collecting two doubles in three plate appearances, scoring one run for Flatbush. Clutch hits came off the bats of Sonny Natkin and Nissim Mishan.
Clinging to the 2-0 lead, Magen threatened to score in the sixth inning. The Warriors loaded the bases on Terzi, and with one out, the batter lifted a ball into the outfield. Natkin settled uder the ball for the second out of the inning, but the Warrior runner on third base tagged up with the idea of cutting the Falcon lead in half. Natkin quickly turned and fired the ball home. It was a strike, and with the tag applied, the inning – and the scoring threat – was over. Terzi took care of things in the seventh, striking out the last Warrior batter to seal the 2-0 win, to finish the season on a high note!
NEST NOTES: The win brought the JV Softball team’s record to 2-4 on the season. Victor Terzi recorded 4 strikeouts in the game.
