Boys 7th Grade Basketball · MD Athletics Raises Banner for First Time in 7 Seasons

For the first time since 2011, a championship banner was raised in the Yeshivah of Flatbush Elementary School Gymnasium Thursday afternoon (5/31), as the 7th Grade class gathered in the gym at the end of the lunch period to celebrate the achievement of the 7th Grade Boys Basketball team in winning the MJDSBL Championship for the 2017-18 season.

After a welcome from Mr. Berkman and an address from Rabbi Hertzberg, Athletic Director Eric Amkraut pointed out how special such achievements are, with the school’s Middle Division teams having come so close so many times over the past five years, only to be denied in the final moments of numerous championship games (the most recent coming with the 7th Grade Girls Team, which fell in overtime in this year’s championship game).  Mr. Amkraut then introduced the Head Coach of the 7th Grade Boys Basketball team, Judah Rhine.  Coach Rhine expressed appreciation for the accomplishment of his team, and he shared with the group how proud he was of the work the boys put in throughout the season, and the dedication and commitment it took on their part to complete a championship season.

It was then time to reveal the banner.  With the team gathered underneath, Mr. Berkman did the honors, and with a few gentle tugs the banner was on full display.

The Falcon 7th Graders were clearly pleased with the recognition, but were quickly reminded that the challenge to add another one would soon be underway.  To a one, they looked ready to answer the challenge immediately.

In the words of Coach Rhine, “כן ירבו“! (loosely translated, it comes across as “the more, the better!”)
