Boys 8th Grade Hockey · Hockey Gets 2018-19 Started for the Middle Division Falcons

The Flatbush Boys Middle Division Hockey team kicked off the 2018-19 athletic season on Tuesday night (10/30) for the YoF Middle Division, and though they battled from start to finish the came up on short in their first contest, losing to the visiting HANC Hurricanes by a score of 7-2 at the Aux Nest in Brooklyn, NY.

A confident Falcons squad took the floor for Coaches Daniel Esses and Joey Habert, and proceeded to take the play right to the Hurricanes.  Flatbush controlled the play for almost half the period, with constant pressure on the HANC goal.  But, the Hurricane defense parried each early Falcon attack. With almost half the period gone, HANC flipped the floor, and peppered the Flatbush goal with a flurry of shots.  Hanon, the Falcon keeper, stood tall in the pipes and denied three straight shots, but the defense could not clear the zone, and the Hurricanes managed to strike first, sneaking the puck into the net.  HANC pressed the advantage, in in the next three minutes scored two more times, and the visitors took a 3-0 lead into the first intermission.

The teams played fairly even hockey for the next period and a half.  Flatbush’s defense was paced by the solid play of Marc Salame, and the Falcons yielded only one goal during that time period.

With under 6 minutes left in the game, Flatbush’s work on offense finally paid off, as Joe Gindi found the back of the net, beating the big Hurricane goalie who had stymied the Falcons to that point.  To add to it, it was a shorthanded goal!  The Falcon bench was rocking and the boys tried to press the advantage.  But, it was HANC that scored next with just over three minutes left to play.  The momentum had shifted back to the visitors.  HANC would get two more late goals, sandwiched around another Falcon tally for Gindi.  Final score: 7-2 in favor of HANC.

NEST NOTES:  The young Falcons have some time now to examine their play and work on cleaning up the errors.  They will look to get that first win on the road when they travel to take on Barkai on Tuesday, November 13.  Game time is scheduled for 7:15 pm.
