The Flatbush Girls Basketball teams visited Central on Wednesday night (12/5) and came a way with a split as the JV got back on track with a convincing win while the Varsity fell by a large margin to the Wildcats in Holiswood, NY.
The Varsity lost 58-38, but the final score was not indicative of the way the Falcons and Wildcats battled each other for the majority of the game. For the first three quarters of play, the two squads were close, with the Falcons trailing, but remaining in striking distance. The fourth quarter proved to be decisive, though, as Central finally pulled away for the 20-point win.
Conversely, the Flatbush JV girls but together a solid team effort, keyed by a breakout performance from Freshman Lynn Franco. Franco was dominant on the boards, collecting more than 12 rebounds in the first quarter alone, and she was virtually unstoppable on offense in the paint. Despite being down two starters (Alexa Greenstein and Sarah Cheney were unavailable), the reserves more than made up for their absence. In typical Flatbush fashion, the guards led a pressured assault on the Wildcat backcourt which led to a number of steals and easy baskets. The JV’s won going away, 47-31. Head Coach Rozan Mizrahi-Loudon was exceedingly proud of the effort. “The girls really were determined to come away with the win, and they executed the game plan to perfection.”
NEST NOTES: The Girls hoopsters will get right back at it on Thursday night as a combined squad will welcome a team from Box Hill Senior Secondary College of in a Holiday scrimmage.
